Which ability is the most popular to level up first across all champs? Here are the numbers.
EDIT: Yes the title is poorly worded. This post is about what ability is "maxed" first, not what ability is taken at level 1.
EDIT 2: Fixed some mistakes caught by various comments.
I was bored yesterday so I looked up on u.gg the most commonly maxed basic ability on each champ, then used Sheets to compile the results. This obviously doesn't factor in ultimate abilities or form changes. Here are the results:
TL;DR Unsurprisingly most champs max Q first as expected, but I never realized just how high of a percentage does, over two thirds of all champs! The only interesting outlier is our good pal Udyr most commonly maxing his R first. I
think he's the only champ with a basic ability on R that isn't a form change, but I'm probably wrong.
Here are the links used for reference if you're curious, they were all made from using the replace function in N++ but there's probably at least one that doesn't work correctly.
Before you comment "Ackshuawllllly Xin Zhao mains all max Q now" or something, just know that despite being challenjour I don't actually main every champ, nor do I know the "best" maxing strategy for each champ. I simply took the most popular skill order from u.gg. What can you or I do with this newfound information? Probably nothing but I thought it was neat.
Nasus is getting buffed but Singed is not, despite Nasus performing better in almost every single elo division
Scroll to the bottom to see my ideas for buffs Don't get me wrong, I think Nasus does need buffs, but statistically according to U.gg Singed is performing worse in every single elo rating but is also not getting buffs. Historically, Riot has a tendency to ignore Singed when he needs a bit of help and I really don't want this to be the case again this season.
https://imgur.com/a/7IylWJg According to the stats, Nasus is performing better than Singed in Plat+, Diamond+, Diamond 2+, Iron, Silver, and Gold. Yet He is getting buffed but Singed is not.
The preseason changes hit Singed hard, IMO. His mythics (RiftmakeLiandrys) Don't give him enough HP and he feels extremely squishy. HIs items were also all nerfed due to AP Assassin abusers (He was already 49% winrate when this happened) so he lost power there as well. He power spikes much later now at 3-4 items when he used to power spike on 2 items. This feels bad because the game is incredibly snowbally and ends on 1-2 items now. His items are also all universally way more expensive, which is rough for a champ that doesn't get that many kills.
Being an almost purely DoT based champion with no real access to burst damage, Singed also struggles hard against the massive amounts of healing present in preseason 11 (Which Riot said they would reduce but in typical riot fashion, just made more powerful while attempting to provide "counterplay") Singed poison is literally not strong enough to damage an ADC until 3 or 4 items and by that point Singed is easily kited by a well-itemized adc.
Almost every single potentially cool and fun item interaction with poison trail has been 'special-cased' by Riot to specifically not apply with Poison trail. Things that may have been fun, like Ravenous Hydra Singed, don't work at all.
He can't stack Righteous Glory with his core damage items anymore, Since if he builds Chemtank then his main damage item is just demonic, foregoing the %amp from Riftmaker. Riftmaker feels like it should be way better on Singed than it actually is, to the point where the item is not even viable (Riftmaker has a negative winrate on Singed as a rush item)
Then the issue is that Singed can potentially perform
Better going mythic second or third, as opposed to first. The problem with this is that the game is usually over by 1-2 items so not having a fast mythic power spike means you are just weaker than your opponents for a long time.
Singed also no longer has easy access to Protobelt, being forced to build rocketbelt, if he wants to have a tool to stack conqueror before he dies. This means he won't be able to go Riftmaker or Liandrys reliably if he wants to stack conqueror in a decent amount of time, basically removing conqueror as a viable rune option.
This is fine, since I believe that Conqueror was never really that good of a rune for Singed anyways, but it was his most played/popular option. I hit challenger last year playing Predator and Unsealed Spellbook Singed so while I do believe Runes Reforged has not been kind to Singed, the item ecosystem is also painful for him now, in addition to the runes also being painful for him.
Buffs:
I believe Singed needs 2 things at the moment: increased poison base+scaling, and scaling HP buffs.
Currently Singed has 2025 base HP at level 18, which is lower than a most ADCs. This puts him lower than Samira, Ezreal, Aphelios, Vayne, Lucian, Ashe, Tristana, Jinx, Twitch, Varus, Xayah, Sivir, Kai'sa, Draven, MF, Jhin, and Kalista He has among the lowest base HP for any bruisefrontline type champion. Giving him some scaling HP buffs, especially since his mythics don't give enough HP would be a good buff.
In addition to this, since the items he builds in preseason 11 generally give less flat AP than the old S10 Rylais Liandry's combo, and since it takes way more items to actually deal decent damage now, some sort of poison damage buff would be welcome. Perhaps a %damage amp after applying poison for a certain amount of seconds to reward Singed players for prolonged poison exposure would be nice. Or just a straight up base + scaling buff.
