Yesterday, I recorded, copied to my updated 64-bit W7 HPE SP1 PC, and uploaded short 1080p HD MOV video files from my old iPhone 6+ (iOS v12.5.1). I was curious and downloaded my own uploaded videos with youtube-dl v2021.01.16 and noticed it wasn't the original file format. -F parameter doesn't even show the original MOV.
I noticed sometimes downloading others' YouTube videos can be huge and high quality (e.g., 4K). I don't know what their original file format sources though. I never saw any downloads that are in MOV formats. They are usually MKV, MP4, and WEBM.

If you're trying to find out what bitrates to upload videos to YouTube at, then you've probably used this encoding guide from YouTube. However, I wondered what actual maximum bitrates YouTube would store after uploading and encoding the video in its high efficiency vp9 codec.
To test this, I uploaded this video of color static at 4k60 to give a video of maximum information and see what it would be compressed down to. I used static since with a real video, YouTube will lower the bitrate for a section if the amount of detail can be contained in a smaller amount of space than the maximum bitrate.
I then redownloaded the video at each quality setting as well as different codecs when available, and this was the bitrate data I got using ffprobe.

A couple things I noticed:

1. The h264 bitrate abruptly jumps to being a higher bitrate at 720p30 while it was a lower bitrate at lower resolutions despite being a less efficient codec and requiring more data for the same quality (although that doesn't apply to static).
2. No, those aren't typos, the stored bitrates for 1440p60 and 4k60 were 36Mbps and 300Mbps respectively.

Because of that last point, I believe that the qualities for 4k or above video are practically unlimited except for the total video size limit. It also means that it's almost impossible to smoothly playback the video at 4k since you not only need internet good enough to load a 300Mbps video, you also need the hardware capable of decoding 300Mbps vp9 video. Even with hardware decoding, it seems pretty much impossible (click on the video at the top and switch to 4k if you want to try).

Please tell me if I somehow misunderstood something about these bitrate numbers.

I just recently got an M1 MacBook Air, and when I went to install YouTube-dl on it to test video downloads I can never get the actual high quality video and audio to download automatically. On my 2015 MacBook Pro everything worked just fine by default.
Even when checking the formats available I am confused as to why the best quality chosen is a 360p video when it goes up to 4k. This is what terminal gives me.

I purchased the VHS video and digitized it for future discussion purposes. It doesn't look as impressive on digital displays. You have to remember that in 1989 I was watching this on a 27" SONY Trinitron Tube Television. It looked great.
I appreciated the intent of the meditations, which were very moving to me. I was really moved by Shirley MacLaine's STRONG personality and AUTHORITATIVE tone of voice. She definitely comes across as a BENEVOLENT AUTHORITY in the video. Like she is NO BULLSHIT SERIOUS and she KNOWS what she's TALKING ABOUT. That's how it FELT to me, naive at 23, with severe PTSD, while high.
I paraphrase below, for EXAMPLE. These are not the exact POSITIVE AFFIRMATIONS she uses but THIS is HOW I REMEMBER it, which is what's IMPORTANT. This is what stuck in my brain.
So the sacral chakra (reproduction, creativity) is represented by the color orange. In her video, she guides your breathing to a very slow and deep pace. You breathe along with her. She takes control of your breathing.
She may say something like, "Focus on the COLOR ORANGE. FEEL ALL of your CREATIVITY FLOWING OUTWARD from the ORANGE. Know that you are a CREATIVE BEING and that NOTHING can stop you from doing ANYTHING CREATIVE." It's a positive affirmation backed up by really emotional and moving narration, music and visuals. It's a very powerful, uplifting and motivational post hypnotic suggestion.
These videos featured really cool subliminal kaleidoscopes. I used to get high and watch these videos and I swear they moved me to tears. The colors were so beautiful. Since that time, I've always wanted to know how to make kaleidoscopes, and especially subliminal and hypnotic kaleidoscopes. I'm really interested in hypnosis because it's a kind of real magic of the mind.
In 2009, I took a Flash class in my local community college and learned how to program in Flash ActionScript. Of course, Flash has security vulnerabilities and is being phased out on the internet. But I managed to find an Open Source Flash kaleidoscope example. I modified it so that all the parameters were controllable and set it up to output still frames of the kaleidoscope to make videos.
I'm NOT very much of a programmer. Very basic. My math and programming skills are pretty elementary. On one of my kaleidoscopes on YouTube I have 17 million views.
I learned that it is possible to make an animated VIDEO kaleidoscope from a list of beautiful colorful still images. If the image turns slowly, say at 120 seconds per revolution, then a single beautiful colorful picture turned into a kaleidoscope is worth 2 minutes of video.
I found some Open Source fractal flame formulas on the internet and wrote a script to modify these formulas with my own color palettes that I created with Photoshop. Then I rendered tons of fractal flame images with my color palettes, and created an automated sorting CHOOSER program to go through them all and view them as ROTATING KALEIDOSCOPES.
In my little application, the rotating kaleidoscope would be displayed on the screen, with two big buttons. A big green button that says, "YES" and big red button that says, "NO." So as I watched these kaleidoscopes, I'd say YES or NO. If I said YES, then it kept the kaleidoscope for future sorting rounds. If I said NO, it removed that image from the list.

HEALTHY FEAR is an essential component of COMMON SENSE. ANGER can be channeled to accomplish GOOD THINGS. But still, as a GOAL, as an IDEAL to strive for, we will seek to eliminate the BAD for educational scientific critical discussion purposes.
So if you accept that the technology WILL be SECRET when it exists, then you can IMAGINE or HYPOTHESIZE or FANTASIZE or SPECULATE that the technology ALREADY exists SECRETLY and is being used to prevent rediscovery of the enabling technologies. I've been using this AWESOME 4K downloader application. I use it for downloading youtube videos that I want to keep forever. I've tried using many different websites that offer the same mechanics but they are unreliable and do not offer the many different options like variations in quality, audio quality, and the ease of switching from mp3 to mp4. I have a 4K camera and tried to upload the MP4 onto YouTube and it shows up extremely low resolution. I am totally perplexed and can't not figure out how to get it to upload in high quality. The file is mp4 and 4 gigs after it was compressed. Any ideas?

I know this is an over asked question, but I’ve gone through all the threads I can find and I can not find any solutions.
To start I just bought a GoPro Hero 8 Black. I’ve had multiple other GoPros and ProTuned the cameras. I got it to where the picture was perfect on the phone and the computer when downloaded from the Camera. That all changes when I upload the GoPro footage to YouTube. For context, it is a film of me riding a dirt bike and when I upload the video to youtube the grass and trees become very gritty (pixelated). I never had this problem with my Hero session 5 or Hero 4 silver.
I understand that when uploading to YouTube, the video is compressed, then processed through AVC or V69 processors depending on what quality the video is uploaded to youtube in. I have uploaded the video from 4k to 1080p and used both V69 and AVC processors yet it is still gritty. The video files are MP4 files so they fit the recommended file type. I Also tried multiple different camera settings. Here is a list of the different settings and modes I have tried shooting in order to fix this problem

All of the settings above were repeated through 4k 30fps, 2.7k 60 fps, 2.7k 120 fps, 1080p 60 fps, and 1080p 120 fps.
I have also uploaded the videos from my SD Card directly to YouTube. I’ve downloaded the video from the camera to my phone, then uploaded the video from my phone to YouTube. I also exported the video from Imovie to YouTube.
I have tried everything I can think of but to no prevail. The reason I bought this camera was to upload videos to YouTube and I have yet to be able to do that.
If anyone has any solutions or ideas please let me know.

What is a Canvas?
A Spotify Canvas video is a vertical video that plays over a song on Spotify mobile, filling the background with a video instead of the usual Spotify player; creating a cool and dynamic way for listeners to interact with a track and use Spotify.

What are the video specifications for a Canvas?

• 9:16 Aspect Ratio
• At least 720px tall
• 3 to 8 seconds long *
  • * Side note on recommended length*: I recommend ignoring the 8 second limit and going for slightly shorter, sometimes Canvas freaks out with exactly 8s long canvases, which I can only assume is some kind of b-frame or metadata issue at the encoding step. To save yourself the hassle, I recommend going 2 frames under 8 seconds. So if your frame rate is 24fps, make your Canvas 07:22 (190 frames) - if 30 fps make it 07:28 (238 frames), and so on. (TIP: control click the playhead counter in After Effects to switch between time and frame counters).*
• MP4 or JPG file format.

Here's a handy list of exact vertical video (9:16) dimensions you can use.

• 720x1280 (720p) - (Very low resolution, won't look great)
• 1080x1920 (1080P) - Recommended
• 2160x3840 (4K) - (Known to be hit and miss with compatibility)

What the heck is Bitrate??
Bitrate is the amount of data you're encoding into your video, essentially the higher the bitrate, the higher the quality and also the higher the file size. Spotify is really funny when it comes to the bitrate of your Canvases, sometimes it works no problem at high bitrates, and sometimes it just won't play nice. Personally, I'd recommend sticking at around 15Mbps for 1080P, and around 30Mbps for 4K (note: I flat out don't recommend using 4K at all because it rarely plays nicely.) But play around with these numbers, Canvases get compressed like crazy when they go onto Spotify, so the higher quality you can feed it at upload, the better results you're gonna see when it goes live. Just don't be surprised when Spotify for Artists freaks out at you for some unknown reason when you cranked your bitrate up way too high. Here's a more in-depth explainer for bitrate.

What software can I use to create a canvas?
There are loads of handy softwares you can use to create motion graphics and Canvases. For 3D, we recommend Blender due to it's incredible versatility, and being free and open-source. For 2D, we recommend After Effects, which is a paid industry leading software by Adobe for motion graphics and visual effects - After Effects can also handle simple 3D, just, badly. Other software you can use (but are not limited to) are HitFilm by FXHome, Cinema 4D by Maxxon, and 3DS Max from Autodesk.

Do my Canvases have to be perfect loops?
No, though Canvases will automatically loop when they play on Spotify. Because of this, having perfect loop videos is an ideal format to give the illusion that the video doesn't end. But of course your Canvas can appear however you'd like. Many Canvases are just clips from music videos edited to 9:16, such as Peninsula by Dinosaur Pile-Up; and equally many are original designs and videos made for the platform, such as Bury a Friend by Billie Eilish.

Who the f*** are you?
I'm a for-hire Canvas designer / 3D animator / Motion Graphics artists and have delivered over 40 original animated canvases made in Blender and After Effects since November '20, so I know a thing or two about the quirks / ins and outs of Canvases. And I'm here to help!

At a client's encouragement, I dug into YouTube a bit. They were frustrated with the quality of their uploaded videos (while the sources were fine, of course), so I ran a few tests.
I created two 40 sec test clips from the same ProRes(HQ) 1080p source:

1. mp4 H264 1920x1080 23.976p 25Mbps (2pass VBR) (link)
2. Everything identical, but at 2560x1440 (uprezzed) (link)

Uploaded them to YT, waited 2 hours to ensure final encoding was completed, downloaded the resulting clips with a '4K Video Download' app, and examined them with MediaInfo:

These rates seem insanely low (remember they even include audio). Sure this content isn't high-action, but 1Mbps? Really?! There's also a wide variance in size for the same content and resolution.
