FoxBet, Barstool, William Hill, Bet MGM, UniBet and BetRivers are the major players in the U.S. that I’ve yet to see comment. Let me know if I missed any. I know this sounds ridiculous, but if three large books are doing it, the rest should too.
I’m not sure the best method to get in touch with these books. Live chat, tweet, DM, whatever method they offer. Let’s get this Purdue refund train going!

Hi folks, long time lurker here, zero time poster. On this rare occasion, I feel as though I actually have something to say. Who am I and why should you care? well, i'm nobody but over the past 7 years I have held bets with every single major bookie that services the UK. All sportsbooks here are regulated so in general you should never have an issue if you are following the rules.
 
However, owing to the coronavirus in March of this year and suspension of every major sports league in the world, it quickly became apparent to me in communications with them that none were adequately prepared to deal with a situation quite like this. I was curious then to see how each would step up (or not) to the plate given that the majority of their T&C’s were fairly lacking RE: a global pandemic. How much can you really trust the books to do right by you and your money when it’s nut-crunching time. Let's find out!
 
I had just over £61k of open NBA division futures across 8 of the major UK bookies when the season was suspended. By day I’m a Chartered accountant (CPA for you folks across the pond) and ex-Big 4 auditor so you better believe I kept a paper trail of every correspondence and read the T&C’s of every site back to front. Now that everything has been settled, I’d like to a take a minute j̶u̶s̶t̶ ̶s̶i̶t̶ ̶r̶i̶g̶h̶t̶ ̶h̶e̶r̶e̶ to write about my experience with each book. Maybe it'll be useful to some of you.
 
These are the 8 sites in question: Bet365, Paddypower, Betfair, Unibet, 888, Betway, Skybet, William Hill (Notable omissions Ladbrokes/Coral and Betstars)
 

• Bet365 – A+ The gold standard and they simply can’t be beaten. Any bettor with experience knows that they are light years ahead of the competition in terms of well everything.. betting limits, customer service, UI, favourable treatment of their punters. This was one of only 2 books which had irrefutable wording in their rules with regards to NBA futures- “all bet stand regardless of team relocation, team name change or season length". No qualms, the ruling is crystal clear.
  
• A quick chat with one of their agents was all I needed to confirm that indeed all my bets are 100% live. Once the season resumed- divisions were marked as settled and paid out as soon as they were mathematically clinched.
  
• In a gesture of goodwill they also voided all Jazz NW division winner futures and paid out for all parlays which they were a leg of. Spoilers- they were the ONLY book to do so. This was worth over £10k to me and highly unexpected as at best I expected a push. The best book there is, period (and not just because they refunded me)
  

 

• PaddpoweBetfair - B+ I’m grouping these 2 together because they share the same traders. Another powerhouse duo in the UK. Terms and conditions here were far less forthcoming than for Bet365. No explicit wording regarding the status of suspended NBA futures but reassurances were given by live chat agents that they were in touch with the league to confirm whether NBA divisions would still be a thing. A fair position to take given the circumstances but still significant uncertainty for me regarding the status of my bets.
• These were however my fastest bets to settle once divisions were eventually clinched so I give them credit for that. No voided bets and everything settled as is. Communication could have been better in the 5 month gap but on the whole, OK.

 

• Unibet/888 - B Again, grouping these 2 because they share the same traders. No particular wording or clear T&C’s with regards to the status of bets in a suspension but Unibet do have their own forum where you can ask questions. For all intents and purposes I found them to be rather useless. A definite clear line of distinction between the agents answering questions and the traders who know (or don’t know) what’s going on but are unable or unwilling to commit to a clear answer one way or the other.
• With no clear T&C’s to cover the situation I understand why they took this line but it was of no comfort to me who had £17k of open bets between them. I was told seemingly every week “there’s a big meeting with the traders to discuss this on Friday” but never heard the outcome or details of said meetings. Definitely felt as though I was being given the run around but hey ultimately these were settled correctly as at the completion of every seeding game. Communication could have been better.

 

• Betway - B Same wording in their T&C’s as Bet365 so I had little worry about my bets being voided. My bets were marked as won as soon as they were clinched but were not paid out until the completion of every seeding game.
• I held no losing bets with Betway so cannot speak to whether they voided losers. Chat agents were clueless of their own T&C’s though when I sought to confirm whether my bets were live during the hiatus but on the whole at least tried to be helpful in our back and forths.

 

• Skybet – B- Semi-clear wording in their T&C’s: “If an NBA Division is not completed within the same calendar year, all Division bets will be made void unless the result has already been determined.” No confirmation from their traders what would happen if the season were totally suspended though, just that that they would resort to the ruling from the official governing body. Fine, what else could they do.
• Bets were settled on completion of all seeding games. Agent’s again a little clueless or hesitant to confirm or deny what would happen in the event of [insert scenario here] but on the whole, okay. Communication could have been better in the hiatus, i'm sensing a theme here..

 

• William Hill – F Maybe I’m being a tad harsh here but in my experience William Hill was by far the worst of all the books to deal with during this time. T&C’s: “Bets will be settled on the division standings on completion of all matches". What does this even mean? For months on end I was unable to get a clear answer from literally anyone. All matches being all matches of the original 82 game schedule, or all matches of the seeding games?
• With hundreds of messages exchanged it seemed crystal clear to me that even they didn’t know or hadn’t decided. On June 14th they ended up voiding all my bets including those which had already clinched by then. To be clear, it wasn’t an issue that these were voided if in fact these were voided in line with their T&C’s. I didn't care how these would be settled. However, the fact that nobody was able to offer any clarity on this one sentence for 3 straight months is ridiculous. Once they were voided then they were able to clarify that actually yes “all games” did in fact mean of the original 82 having having by that point already held onto my money for months longer than necessary.... definitely left a dirty taste in my mouth. Expected better for a book this size. F is for fail.

 
So overall? fairly positive to be honest. You can trust them all to do the right thing... eventually. The main element that was lacking during the down time was communication. I feel as though almost all of them were caught flat footed- didn't what to do, what to say and how to say it to their players when things first went zerodarkthirty, though even that I can sort-of overlook given the unprecedented situation. There is no doubt though, if your market is available on Bet365 and you aren't limited there's little reason to go elsewhere. This has been my TedTalk. Thanks for attending.

However, when the offers come as quickly as they do during Cheltenham, practice can be the difference between getting into breaking the £1,000 profit mark and missing out.
So, make sure that you have familiarised yourself with and practiced the popular horse racing offers before Cheltenham. These include 2nd to SP Fav, 2nd place refund, 4/1 winner, fallers insurance. Simply doing a Saturday’s worth of horse racing reload offers will tick a lot of these boxes.

2. Be Organised
This can be best summed up as - make sure that your money is where it needs to be before the end of the weekend prior to Cheltenham (7th & 8th March).
Additionally, try to have completed the majority of the welcome offers for the major bookmakers. The key bookmaker to have ready is Bet365 – their Horse racing offer during the festival is massively profitable.
Set up a separate PayPal for faster withdrawals.
If you've not got a massive exchange balance, then on this rare occasion we recommend boosting its size using your own funds. Of course, because you’re matched betting the only risk is the tiny qualifying loss per offer, which you should be used to by now. The last thing you want is to be missing out on offers and not making the most of the available profit.
Try to get some bets on the night before if the odds matches are strong. Know which offers are available on which races and know what offers you want to go for on each race.

3. Go Easy Early
Do easy low stake reloads (Free bet on a loss, 2nd place, 2nd to SP favourite, etc) the night before if possible or early morning. The Exchanges will have a lot of liquidity, even hours before the races – meaning that you will not need to worry about unmatched bets when laying.

4. Odds Boosts & VIP
Look out for the boosts and make a note to check the Heads&Heads forums facebook group hourly for any updates on potential boosts. These will come thick and fast, but if you are quick, you can create some pretty incredible profit margins.
Additionally, make sure you check your email over the 4 days. There will be plenty of bookmakers handing out ‘tailored’ offers to their VIP members. VIP has a loose definition in the eyes of the bookmaker, so you’re likely to get a lot more of these than you think and they are often very lucrative.

5. Enjoy It
Sounds cliché but don’t let it stress you out. Making money is great but taking the week off work and then running yourself into the ground all week isn't worth it. Matched betting is a side earner – something to enjoy and be done in your spare time to earn you some extra cash. It should not feel like a job.

6. A Small Exchange Balance Is No Excuse!
Is it worth taking part with a really small bank like £500'ish?
Even if you just did the offers that guaranteed a profit, you’d still make around £250 and this would not require a massive exchange balance. So yes, it is absolutely still worth it.
What If I Am Gubbed by Most Bookmakers?
This is a very common question and not an unreasonable one either. After all it is incredibly frustrating to have your account with a bookie gubbed. This is even worse when a huge event like Cheltenham is coming up.
Honestly, it will restrict your ability to make money, but it is still possible to make a profit from Cheltenham.
Extra place strategies are worth looking at. This is made possible because Extra place betting doesn’t rely on you using free offers. So, if the bookie has only restricted your use of free offers then this is your best option. Furthermore, if you are restricted from getting reload offers by a bookmaker, you should still be able to take advantage of odds boosts. So, keep an eye out for these on the Heads&Heads Forum.
Anything I Should Be Looking Out For?
One issue to be aware of is that of the smaller bookmakers offering very generous odds. If an offer looks too good to be true then you should be careful. This was particularly true a couple of years ago, when a lot of smaller bookies offered really good odds and then refused to pay out people’s winnings.
This problem is unlikely to occur again (happened in 2017), with bookmakers under the spotlight by legislators like never before. Should You Book Time Off Work?
Are you planning to take time off work during Cheltenham? This could be a great idea. As well as watching the races on TV, you can stay up to date with all of the offers during the day. However, we want to stress that taking time off work is by no means 'required' to make money during this week.

Defi Du Seuil can be found quoted in the Champion Chase antepost betting and the early money has been promising. He has won 13 of his first 18 and those stats aren’t to be taken lightly, certainly not by backers.

With Cheltenham Festival coming up, I thought I’d put together a comprehensive guide and overview for what is THE most profitable time for matched bettors.

So whether you have been doing matched betting for a while or you’re completely new to the concept, with a bit of luck this post should be interesting/useful.

Just a quick disclaimer. Throughout this guide I will be referencing Heads&Heads, however, this is not a promotional piece. The advice below can be used and applied to whichever service you happen to be with. There will be an offer at the bottom of this guide. 2. Be Organised
This can be best summed up as - make sure that your money is where it needs to be before the end of the weekend prior to Cheltenham (7th & 8th March).

Sounds cliché but don’t let it stress you out. Making money is great but taking the week off work and then running yourself into the ground all week isn't worth it. Matched betting is a side earner – something to enjoy and be done in your spare time to earn you some extra cash. It should not feel like a job.

6. A Small Exchange Balance Is No Excuse!
Is it worth taking part with a really small bank like £500'ish?
Even if you just did the offers that guaranteed a profit, you’d still make around £250 and this would not require a massive exchange balance. So yes, it is absolutely still worth it.

What If I Am Gubbed by Most Bookmakers?
This is a very common question and not an unreasonable one either. After all it is incredibly frustrating to have your account with a bookie gubbed. This is even worse when a huge event like Cheltenham is coming up.
Honestly, it will restrict your ability to make money, but it is still possible to make a profit from Cheltenham.

Epatante
Epatante has caught the eye of punters during the early betting for the Champion Hurdle and, at the time of writing, rates as one of the strongest race favourites of the week. We likely have not seen the best of this horse.

Benie Des Dieux
Benie Des Dieux is quoted for a few Cheltenham races this spring but traders at major bookmakers are confident she will run in the Mares Hurdle. If she does, bookies expect her to win the race with a bit to spare.

Envoi Allen
Envoi Allen is priced as the standout horse in the Ballymore Novices Hurdle and traders believe he will take all the beating. A loss here will rate as one of the biggest upsets of the week. He won each of his first seven starts.

Defi Du Seuil
Defi Du Seuil can be found quoted in the Champion Chase antepost betting and the early money has been promising. He has won 13 of his first 18 and those stats aren’t to be taken lightly, certainly not by backers.

Tiger Roll
Tiger Roll is a fans favourite but have we already seen the best of Tiger Roll? As it stands Tiger Roll is the antepost favourite to win the Cross Country Chase and is a short price at that.

You and I clearly do not see eye to eye on many issues. I would like to work on improving our relationship. In order to do so, I think we need to address a few issues.
 
With regard to "the recent history with your site" comment you made when removing a post I made comparing the rake schedules on a number of online poker sites, I can only assume that you are referring to Full Flush PokeEquity Poker Network and their recent failiure as a company. I'm not sure what devilish things you think I am guilty of, but there is quite a bit of misinformation floating about on various Internet poker forums. It seems as if you have read this information and bought it all hook line and sinker. I would like to offer additional information in hopes of changing your perspective on the matter.
 

• Were you aware that I have helped at least 3 investigative reporters by providing them with information for their investigations regarding Equity Network?
• Are you aware that the people involved in that rediculous scam site player-protect, after talking all that unsubstantiated madness about myself and my company, are now trying to get me to join with them and add our losses to their lawsuit?
• Were you aware that I suffered losses on Full Flush or did you buy the BS on the Internet that we were in on some conspiracy to steal money from our loyal customers?
• Are you aware that we are helping our players to recover their funds with recovery programs sanctioned by other online poker rooms?
• Are you aware that we are actively working on a plan to offer this to anyone and everyone who was affected by the closure of FFP/EPN?
• Were you aware that I did not set the price on Full Flush balances when I purchased them? They were set by the market, in full public view - I was challenged to "put my money where my mouth was" and I did exactly that.
• Were you aware that we have been investigating Full Flush ourselves and intend to publish information that we've found?
• Are you aware that disclosing all of one's information publicly, while under threat of lawsuit, and while active investigations are ongoing is a terrible tactic?
• Are you aware that in recent years we've helped sites locate DDOS attackers and stop them?
• Are you aware that we have helped multiple sites shut down collusion rings, most recently getting a number of DON colluders kicked off of BetOnline?
• Are you aware that I personally paid the person who kept public record of Lock Poker's player debts on 2+2 and that we regularly took Lock to task? (I never once endorsed or worked with Lock Poker)
• Were you aware that I provided information to Interpol to aid in their investigation of Jennifer Larson and Co?
• Were you aware that our website has only backed two failed rooms in the near 11 years we've been online? Full Flush being the second one.
• Were you aware that any site promoted on our website is a site that I personally have money at risk on as a player, an affiliate, and as a staker?
• Were you aware that we have dropped numerous rooms in the past long before they went defunct (ex UB, AP, Cake).
• Are you aware that I report real spam posts every time I see them in this forum? (ex: Hindi poker site posts, topless "need a friend posts", etc)

 
You condemn me for being evil, but I help people on this forum every day. On many forums for that matter. I am frequently thanked here and elsewhere. In fact as of Feb 14th, the most recent 100 "comment replies" the word 'thank" has been uttered 13 times in direct response to my posts. A pretty good ratio on a downvote and troll happy board such as /poker don't you think?
 
I also easily comply with the 10:1 ratio of self promotion. Contrary to some of your prior accusations, I do not reply with "one word answers" intended to inflate my post count. In fact, I devised a little experiment to prove this. I copied both mine and your last 100 posts to /poker as of Feb 6th when I started writing this letter. I removed everything but the actual responses and numbered them (files available for review to anyone who wants them). Let's take a look at my metrics versus yours over the last 100 posts to /poker shall we?

Perhaps you think my website promotes "shady" and "unsafe" sites? I disagree wholeheartedly. I reject each and every site I'm unwilling to risk my own funds on. Here's a full list of sites we work with:
888, PokerStars, PartyPoker, Unibet, Betfair, Full Tilt, Bovada, Bodog, Ignition, America's Cardroom, Black Chip, True Poker, Ya Poker (you may not know this one, it is directly owned by ACR), BetOnline, Sportsbetting.ag, TigerGaming, SWCPoker, Grand Poker, Intertops, Juicy Stakes
 
You will note none of those crazy "play money" Iranian, Israeli, Asian poker sites are in that list. I do not find them worthy of risking my own money on, and thus I do not offer them to our clients. Period.
 
Since 2006 when we opened my website, we have had TWO poker sites fail that we promoted. Full Flush, and PokesPoker. They are separated in failure by 10 years. There were over 70 poker sites that failed during that time period. I think we have a good record for keeping our players away from crappy and terribly unsafe poker sites.
 
The Wiki [Editor's Note: This was part of a prior letter I wrote and wish to include it here as well]
 
Nearly 9 months ago when all of the controversy about the wiki was going on and right after TOR became a moderator, the decision was made to make the wiki only modifiable by moderators. I understand conflict of interest was the main rationale. I was also told that:
"Mods believe they have the time to use the wiki in a better way than it is being used right now."
 
This has proved utterly false. When I was editing the wiki (and I was the main editor for a year or so), I updated it 1-4 times per month as needed. In the nearly 8 months since the wiki was taken over by moderators, it has been edited two times. The first was to remove "affiliate influence and bias." The second was done less than a month ago to update Bovada to Ignition poker, a major event which had taken place a full 3 months prior to the edit).
 
In taking a quick glance over the wiki I saw over a dozen things that need to be updated. However, this is not being done. Mods are not keeping the wiki up to date and it is providing false and out of date information to readers of /poker.
 
I was also told that:
 
"Mods believe they can source discounts themselves, and due to non expectation of benefit for them sourcing it can get better deals than affiliates can."
 
This has also not happened. Not a single deal has been sourced. In fact, things are worse. A deal that gave out thousands of free dollars to poker subscribers was scrapped and never replaced. I fail to see the benefit to the forum in removing free money for subscribers. Other moderators agreed with me and wanted to keep the program live, but were seemingly overruled.
 
I will admit that I was not perfect and that some things could have been handled differently in the wiki, but in the last year I edited the Wiki and the FAQ, after ground rules were set, I always sought moderator approval for changes I thought might be controversial (DaLonelyBaptist/ can confirm this). I also strived to keep the Wiki as up to date as my time would allow, which turns out to be at least 15x more frequently than it is currently being updated.
 
I believe that much of this stems from Touch_Of_Red 's dislike for me. I think he seeks to punish me, "the evil spammer," for some perceived harm he has suffered. I do not think I am what he claims me to be. I constantly help players with issues on this forum, 2+2, CardsChat, and other smaller forums. I receive thanks quite often and I have NEVER been banned from any forum for spamming because I adhere to the stated rules of all forums I participate in.
 
I do not think it is fair to reduce knowledge and opportunity for /poker subscribers simply to punish me because TOR doesn't care for me. I think that if the Wiki rules were reset to what they were prior to TOR becoming a mod, that I could do an even better job of updating the wiki than before. In fact, I've learned a little bit of reddit coding and I feel that I can improve the format of the wiki as well as keeping it up to date, useful, and providing added value to the subscribers of poker.

It appears the sad truth is, yes. As I said above, I'm going to help anyone who gets in contact with me and lets me know how much they lost.
