Firewatch - Summary and scene breakdown of what happened in the game
Intro and backstory summary You are in Boulder Colorado, it's 1975. You get to decide details about your life with your girlfriend Julia and it's clear your character is in love with her, you get a dog named Bucket, no Mayhem, no Bucket, no Mayhem, no Bucket, No Mayhem..... but life takes bad turns for them both and in the end she always end up mentally ill and taken care of by her family. You have experienced great loss and might not be the most rational person. You apply for a job as fire watch to get away from your life and it's problems...(you get alot of information about your character Henry and his life choises but the rest have little impact on whats happening to him this summer while on fire watch).
First Scene You go down by elevator to a garage. You pick up your orange backpack that rested on the elevator floor. The building you are in has 3 floors ontop of a garage with 8 regular parking spaces and 2 guest spaces. Only your car is parked here and in space #5. It's a red pickup truck. No other cars are parked here. There is a small fenced locked storage with cinder blocks, two black trash bins, a paint can, some cleaning products, a fire extinguisher and a tin can with some nails inside of it. There are 2 trash bins and a few boxes scattered around them behind it. The access ramp to the garage is wide and has two lanes of traffic. The garage has a steel mesh gate inside it halfway down the ramp and all you can see outside is light.
By the elevator door is a another fire extinguisher, a trash bin and beside it is a wrinkled up beer can of the brand: Red Eagle-brewed in Wyoming.
There is a large splat of oil on the concrete floor in front of the small meshed storage but nowhere else. None of the parking places has any trace of oil and they look unused. The garage itself doesn't appear newly built and the paint is worn. Only 3 out of 12 lights in the ceiling are lit. The elevator floor has a dark stain. You load your backpack on the truck. End scene-

Scene 2 You get out of your truck at Thorofare Trailhead. You don't see your backpack in the back of the truck. You are probably wearing it. You've parked in a small groove with room for 3 cars. You find a yellow Cody Wyoming hat on the ground in front of your car when you go to look your tires are aligned. You can put it on.
The gates to the road back are already locked shut. You probably did this after parking and then went back to pickup your gear. There is a sign outside of the gates with a yellow ranger figure and a big meter showing fire danger today, prevent forest fires. It's showing Extreme danger.
There is an information board with a map of Two Forks region overview. It shows names of areas. Location of several cache boxes and three camp sites in the area.
It warns inexperienced hikers from hiking here. It informs about bears and that you are in their country. Fireworks are forbidden. Remember to check in.
You head deeper into the forest. End scene-

Scene 3 You jump down from a high rock. It's evening and the sun is setting. It's calm and you hear a lot of birds chirping. You find a wooden sign saying. Two forks fire lookout is 8 miles ahead. You jump over a log and continue. End Scene-

Scene 4 It's night and you have set camp. Your sleeping bag is blue and out in the open under the stars. Your backpack is next to it. You have a gaslight and a portable stove. You're having soup. You have journal with you. It's Julia's. You open it and look at a picture from the time she drew you naked posing as a victoria secrets model. You close it quickly and don't read any of the text. End scene-

Scene 5 You're on a path deep inside the forest. You are walking the slope of a small canyon. It has fog at the bottom. You spot an elk on the path. As you cross a treetrunk and step closer it spots you and jumps down into the canyon and disappear. You continue. End scene-
Backstory continues...
Scene 6 You step out into a highly situated glade and spot the lookout tower. The game tells you to enter the tower. It's night and dark but there is a full moon out, it's big and give you enough light to orient in the surroundings. You wander the forest for a bit and you find a few of the cache boxes. They are locked and you can't open them. The forest is quiet. Back at the base of the tower on the other side from the stairs to the top you find a cistern. You can turn a wheel and get what looks like water. Next to the tower is an outhouse and a generator. Inside the outhouse there is a baseball on the floor. You can pick this up and throw it around. It bounces down a path with a sign, it leads to Beartooth pt. 1.3 miles away and Thorofare lookout 6.2 miles away. The path is blocked by a warning sign saying there is danger of loose and falling rocks and you don't want to travel dangerous paths in the middle of the night. You see lights from a tower in the distance. You walk around some more but the forest is dark and quiet and you don't come across much else. At one point you hear chimes and picking noises coming from a cliff close to the path your walking. They don't sound natural but you find no way up there to have a look. You can't find any other paths and don't want to wander off much further from the tower in the middle of the night so you head back.
At the top of the tower you have a great view of the surrounding forest. You see the other lookout tower in the direction of Thorofare with its lights on. It's set on a cliff much higher then yours. You see the cliff in the forest where you heard the sounds but can't see anything unnatural going on there. The tower it self boarded up.
You enter the tower and turn the power on with a switch. The lights come on and shortly after you are called over the radio on the desk close to the door. You pick it up and look around while being greeted by Delilah the other fire watch. There is a photo of a raccoon over the door, a broken clock, some sort of round map device and a lot of other things you don't have time to inspect before you say good night to Delilah and go to sleep. End scene-
End of intro-
Day 1 You are at your desk using a typewriter to type a diary entry. Delilah is hailing you over the radio. You finish and put the paper on the desk beside the typewriter and have a look at what you just wrote. It says:
April 28, 1989 Tomorrow is a big day. Was going to drive up today but there is a guy coming from the university to grab another box of books and he was a real pain in the ass about doing it before I left. Means I get to catch the nuggets game tonight, not that Phoenix isn't going to take this series in three straight. There is always next year.
May 1, 1981 Hiked in last night. Got lost a lot on the way here. And then met my boss Delilah. Real piece of work. Hopefully we don't have to talk much. Maybe I'm just grumpy from lack of sleep. Didn't get a wink last night as was pretty sure there was a bear sniffing around my tent. I actually made a good fire last night and flipped through Julia's journal. I still feel weird about it but Susan thinks it's a good way to, what's the word, "stay connected to the real Jules." But I was sitting there looking at it and I don't know if it's a good idea for me to keep doing that. didn't feel good and yeah, like I said I didn't sleep great after that but it was probably the bear. Alright it's late afternoon and I gotta check in with the boss. I imagine I won't have a hell of a lot to do.
(the intro told us Susan is Julia's sister) After reading you pick up the radio and hail Delilah back. "H- hey, Sorry I guess I slept in D- You got a relaxing what 14 hours of sleep?whew! H- Yeah what is it, 6? D- It's 6,45pm H- whoops D- don't worry about that hike puts everyone out of commission for a day or two but now that you're up let me quickly get squinted with your job.. Do you see that round thing in the middle of your room? She tells you to look at the map in the middle of the room H- Ok yeah I see it D- So now you're ready to work H- I'm new I wanted to look around. D- I did the same thing... D- This is an Osborne fire finder....invented in 1914 by w.b... H- Osborne D- You use this to spot.. Fi..(profanity) H- what is it? D- nothing... Uhm.. You use this to...F-me(profanity) H- good god, language lady.. D- Out your west facing window are your seeing what I'm seeing, are those fireworks? D- I need you to confirm that you see them H- woah, That's not legal right? D- Uh no.. you need to get down there right now and stop them with them. Fire danger is through the (profanity) roof. H- is that really my job? D- your job is whatever I say it is..the closest ranger is like 2 days away, go down there and set them straight D- do you think you can handle that H- do I write them a ticket? D-easy there Dirty Harry H- well... D- get going You probably need rope to get down the shale between you and the lake if I remember right..There should be some in the supply box on the way, the code is to 1234...its actually that for all of them H- Convenient."
You look at the broken clock on the wall and report it to Delilah H- The clock in here is broken D- woah! the clock in here is broken! H- so how do we report the time. D I don't even know, do you think anyone know what time it is, are all the clocks broken? H- you are the worst...
H- Seriously shouldn't we know what time it is.. D- of course, yes H- So how. Do. You. know that.. D- I have a watch H- ahh
You look around your tower and you have most things you need. A few books: Death strikes at two by Richard sturgeon -backside reads: explosive follow-up to one chance to die. Twelve bodies, zero leads, one man for the job. Neal Black is asked to investigate the bizarre xx of a local teen, he reluctantly accepts at the xx, of a friend, that is, up until he discovers shocking evidence that the victim was just the latest in a string of unsolved murders that stretches back over the decade. Time is running out. It's only a matter of days before the killer strikes again and Neal black is determined to make every second count. The patriots by Donald Andersson -backside reads: it begins and ends in deep red Russia where they sent him to spy, where they urged him to kill and where they learned he wasn't the patriot they had hoped. That is until a janitor named Claudell Williams reveals that he too was there the night in Stalingrad- the night everything went wrong and the truth was made clear. Can two men return to civilian life in possession of information that will destroy both themselves and the presidency?...will the government even let them?
Birds of Wyoming by George Sinclair Featuring every species state wide with more then 300 illustrations, photographs and maps The singular mind by Dr Jonas Allard -backside reads: don't mind your mind alone. Have you considered the untapped power of your own mind ? Do you often ponder the unexplainable? Do you find yourself seeing that which is not there? Do you yearn to explore the labyrinth of your own psyche?
Glory - Unreadable backside so no idea what it's about
You have Scottish soap, glass cleaner, a thermos, a toolbox, a water jug, space puffs, cans of beans and tuna, a first aid kit, a strange game called dr president. Dirty dishes, a national forest guidebook, dish soap, forest service lookout cook book, a coffee percolater and a kettle, There is a bottle of bleech and a pine cone on top of your stove. A fire extinguisher, and old piece of paper? That turns out to be a hand drawn 'TWO-Orcs" map and you ask Delilah about it over the radio. H- hey there is a map in my tower that I'm pretty sure is not usgs regulation. Unless I've unknowingly been assigned to work in "TWO-ORCS' and the lake to the east is made of acid? D- Uh, that's sounds.... erroneous H- Seems like the previous resident was into fantasy
You find a 20-sided die in the desk drawer. You brought a photo of you and Julia but she's taking it through a mirror and the flash hides her face. She has dark hair. There are some photos of the forest and an unwritten postcards by the Windows, another pine cone, another book in the second desk drawer: Eight rolled the hard way by Richard sturgeon and it has two six sided dice on the cover -backside reads: Neal Black has just exposed the latest underground gambling racket in the nations history. With the mayor basking in the glory it's only when consequences come knocking is Neal Black called on again. Neal Black is a lot of things: but a fall guy isn't one of them.
Will Neal beat the odds when the most dangerous xxxxes in the mob have his number? And in the xxxx when a high-risk sting goes wrong it's only a matter of time before the powers that be do what they always do: put it all on Black.
You've hanged your coat on the power switch, there is a floral poster with trees, above it some maps, by your bed is a truck Alaska calendar with the month may 1989 opened, it's blank.
There is a smiley face on a post it on the fire finder, there is a space underneath with a box, pencils, erases and tape, a metal box labeled rags and ontop of it a dark piece of an animals jaw? There are teeth in it.
You put on you yellow Code Wyoming hat and go out to set the firework marauders straight. You watches your head on the way down, there are 2 propane tanks on the ledge ontop of the stairs. Fire danger is through the roof so you head towards the lake, you see a sign by the tower, jonesy lake 0.7 miles. it's a beautiful evening. The path is blocked by a fallen tree, you hop over it. You come to a glade with the supply box labeled 306 in the middle and radio Delilah about it.
H- So i found the supply box D- Great. H- Are there a lot of these out here in the woods? D- You they are all over the Shoshone. Save us a lot of trips back and forth from the trail head. D- Don't take all the good stuff.. H- Yeah alright.. H- Hey what's the code again? D- 1234 the whole lot of them
You open the supply cache, there is a map on the lid with drawn pathways and hand written notes, you copy them to your map but the only thing you draw are the paths. The written notations read: wapiti wheel area details - ranger Rick 6/74, will Armstrong 7/75, Sean vannnd 6-7/76'this world is but a canvas to our imagination'-Thoreau, Jane Ng 1983. It shows where there is an amazing view and a medicine wheel. The amazing view is on the way to jonesy lake. There is a taped up hand written note next to the map on the lid. It's from Ron addressed to Dave. You take the note., in the storage compartment there is a shelf with a pine cone on it, a granola bar, from 1983?? And some rope. H- I tracked down that rope you sent me to find D- great so you should be set to get down to the lake You pick up the granola bar H- I thought we weren't me t to leave food out, that's how you get bears D- these boxes are bear proof, don't worry about it. You eat the granola bar and then close the lid
You continue and take the path leading to the view... You were here last night but in daylight you can actually see something H- this vista is incredible D- Which one? H- There is a canyon and.. D- You should see what I'm looking at, an eagle has been hovering this gorge for.. An hour. If you're good you can come by and see it at the end of the summer.
You walk past the cliff where you heard the sounds and make out the chimes again.. The fireworks are still going so you carry on. You reach the shale slide with a rope hook at the top of it. There are a lot of sharp rocks on the way down and it's a long drop to the bottom. H- This shale slide is steep, how do you expect me to get down this? D- I don't remember it being that bad, it's not even named on our topos. H- It should be called cripple gulch, just east of "gonna pee in a bag forever flats" D- Oh is that absaroka Indian, maybe creek? H- it's actually English for 'not in my job description'
H- How do you expect me to get down this, D- Well did you get that rope? H- YeAh I got it D- Okay, just lash it to something nearby and take it slow
You start to rappel down but the rope breaks... H-No. No. Nooooooo! thud, ouff. You landed hard on your back and see your radio next to you, you pick it up and tell Delilah
H- Ugh hey, D- What the hell is wrong with you? H- cripple gulch got me D- what exactly happened? H- My rope snapped coming down the shale slide D- think you'll have to pee in a bag for the rest of your life? H- no I think I'll make it D- well be careful for Christssake
You follow a rocky path and see another shale slide to the south. Your rope broke so you can't get down there and it doesn't lead in the direction of the fireworks.
As you reach a nice looking meadow you can't see or hear any fireworks anymore. H- it's a hell of a nice camping spot here D- I haven't been down there in years but yeah, Jonesy lake area is perfect
You follow along the right edge of the meadow and hop over a stone to a nearby glade, this looks like a good and secluded spot to set camp. There is a tree stump in the middle with a raccoon on top of it busy eating something.. Is that a granola bar? It's trying to open the package. Suddenly Delilah calls out over the radio and scare it away...@#&*! D- Pairs, pares , pears!! D- YES! H- uh is that some kind of code I missed? Are we evacuating of something? D- Ha, no H- then what? D- I'm doing a crossword puzzle and figured out the theme, it's homonyms. pairs, pares, pears. The clue was couples pealing fruit. Haha. Anyway hope you have a good afternoon H-thanks...
You take another path out of the empty glade and return to the meadow, now you spot beer cans on the rocks nearby, there are a lot of them. You pick one up, it's the same brand as the one you saw by the trash can in the garage. Red Eagle - brewed in Wyoming. H- Finding a bunch of empty beer cans out here D- the idiots down by the lake? H-what do you know, people with shitty manners drink shitty beer. D- what you don't like cold x on a hot day? H- no I do, but I didn't say my manners were shitty..
You examine the beer can. It should definitely be recycled. There are 8 of them and you clean them all up. Then you spot a freshly lit campfire just down the path towards the lake, it's still smoking. You hurry there to put it out. You just remembered the fire danger is through the F..(profanity) roof and you radio Delilah about it. H- Oh look they decided to set a campfire too D- You know they color coded the signs but I guess they didn't account for people being plain stupid does it You stomp out the fire. H- Well I stomped out the fire D- man I would have named that forest fire something good too H- well you could always name it for starters
you spot more beer cans lying around and there a set of fireworks ontop of a rock next to them, and a bottle of whiskey on top of another rock. H- they left half a bottle of whiskey, decent stuff. D- drunk pyromaniacs, f..(profanity) great. You pick it up and examine it. H- oh sh(profanity). Ferriter Irish It's a single malt whiskey and has a ferret as an emblem. You decide to confiscate it. You don't want drunk fire starters setting the forest a blaze on your watch.
You step to the bundle of fireworks and examine them. One is called magic missile, another screaming wife, the third something with bang bang bang and the last one something with pure steel, that one shouldn't be held in hand. It probably goes for all of them. H- found the fireworks, D- well confiscate them You do as she says and then clean up the rest of the beer cans, there are 4 more of them. You spot two backpacks next to the cliff wall, one red and one yellow. H- they left their packs tied up here D- don't f with them, the last we need are some hikers filing reports of harassment On the other side of the camp you find two pairs of clothing in bright colors H- they left their clothes out to dry. There's two of them... What if they're naked? D- wouldn't that be exciting? They are obviously still there so go take a look. You follow a path along to some thick bushes and find a bra hanging from a fallen tree. It's laced and looks like something from Victoria's Secret. H- I found a bra D- a nudie pyromaniac. Remain professional. You duck under the tree and head further on the path through the bushes H- uh.. There are, p-panties.. D- there are what? H- I don't want to say that word again. D- why, because you are twelve? The panties are laced as well and match the bra. Someone brought nice underwear on their hike into the woods. You carry along and find another pair of bras and panties, these don't match and are more plain and spotted. H- there's a.. Oof D- Yes? H- There are two naked ladies out here D- Can you handle that? H- Of course, come on. I like naked ladies as much as anyone but there's, you know... D- Two? H- yeah! D- I know this will be tough for you but try to pick your tongue up off the ground and do your job. H- Okay... You exit the bushes and are greeted by a beautiful sunset over Jonesy lake, there out in the water by a big rock you spot two dark figures playing with some sparklers H- I found them in the lake D- skinny dipping? H- yeah.. Girl 1- is that a guy over there? D- haha... oh boy, enjoy dealing with that. You walk closer and notice they are two teenage girls, they have a boom box set up on a rock by the shore playing girl pop songs. H- you gotta take it easy with the fireworks, Alright? Girl 1- YOU outta take it easy at the Sizzler buffet! Girl 2- Ha Chelsea! Chelsea(girl1)- what?!? He's just some loser in the woods, I mean, he's grody! C-why do you guys think it's alright to stare at girls? H- Look I'm sorry for bothering you, can you just knock it off please? C- you should be! This is a free country and we should be free to do what we want Girl2- And FREE from any peeping toms! H- I said sorry C- Oh my god, is that what you are? Barf me out! Girl2- Eww Girl2- can we just get out of here? C- eww totally Girl2- you're gross! C- you're just a sad man out in the woods They both skimp off behind the big rock in the lake and disappear as Delilah hail you on the radio. D- did that go ok? H- It's done D- Well that's ominous H- Hopefully there won't be any more trouble
The game tells you to find a way back to two forks tower. You look around but don't see much else, Jonesy lake is quiet aside from a couple of sea birds, H-Well this lake seem like a good spot to swim even if the last persons to do so were assholes D-Right now though it's all snowmelt so you'd freeze your balls off, it's probably a fair trade.. There is a tree trunk laying on the shoreline, you find a trail sign to two forks. It's 0.6 miles away. This must be a good way back. H- hey there is a trail near the lake leading to two forks tower D- yeah... H- so I should go this way...
